2nd City Council Art Gallery + Performance Space in Long Beach, California

The Selection process was fascinating. THANK YOU to everyone who submitted their work for review and to 2CC for all the coordination of this upcoming exhibition.

122 entries came in. 51 were selected. The process of looking revealed layers of thought and themes; ideas emerged, connections made. References to mosaic’s ancient roots became anchored in contemporary zeitgeist, experimental materials and techniques. The handiwork of both expert and novice point to our stories, our dreams, our joys, our pain. The human condition revealed piece by piece, tessera by tessera.

It’s gonna be a fantastic show. I hope you will visit the Gallery.

Many Mosaic Workshops and Events will be ongoing through the run of the show!

Exhibition June 27 – August 5, 2009

Artists Reception with Live Music Saturday, July 11, 2009 7:00 to 9:00 pm

This was the call for entries mission statement:

Mosaic is an ancient medium and ‘tesserae‘ are the small pieces used to make up a mosaic—the tiny bits that create the larger picture. We invited mosaic artists from around the world to share their recent work as a window into this popular contemporary art form. The exhibition will be a dialogue between artists working in all media of mosaic: tile, glass, broken crockery, ceramic, polymer clay, mixed-media, and more. The exhibition itself becomes the Mosaic.  It reflects the diverse ways in which this exciting medium is used for artistic expression, creativity and growth.

This is a gorgeous gallery, and I’m honored to have been invited to jury this first mosaic exhibition produced by 2nd City Council.
